The Legal-economic clinic UNIOS is a joint multidisciplinary project of the Department of Commercial Law of the Faculty of Law in Osijek and of the UNESCO Department of entrepreneurship of the Faculty of Economics in Osijek. The clinic was founded in November 2013 and started working in February 2014. It operates on the mutual benefit of clients and students and is committed to enabling students to learn from practical experience.
Students of both faculties are involved in the work of the Legal-economic clinic UNIOS and with the synergy of knowledge they give local entrepreneurs legal and business advices. Students work in three-member teams and each team has two mentors, one from each field. The mentors include professors from both faculties, employees of the partners, Osijek lawyers, judges of the Commercial Court in Osijek and members of the Croatian Employers Association (CEA) Osijek and they supervise work of students. Everyone involved in the work of the Legal-economic clinic UNIOS, mentors and students, as well as associated partners, operate on a voluntary basis.
Legal-economic clinic UNIOS offers free specialised legal and economic guidance that covers a range of complex legal and economic issues including:
- Agreements such as non-disclosure agreements and cooperation agreements
- Regulatory advice on the laws that may affect client’s business
- Types of business structure
- Business plans and marketing plans
- Calculation of financial ratios
Client contacts Legal-economic clinic via e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org). After that, students arrange a meeting with the Client on a Wednesday. The aim of the meeting is to interview a client issues and gather relevant information. Advice is delivered by Legal-economic clinic UNIOS’ students under the supervision of mentors. Students are not allowed to provide legal or economic advice during the meeting. Every advice must be approved by the mentors before it is sent to the client.
In three years of its work Legal-economic clinic UNIOS has advised larger number of start-up companies and existing entrepreneurs on domestic and EU law issues. In order to provide comprehensive legal or/and business advice and thus to respond to the client’s needs in the best possible manner Legal-economic clinic created a network of partners on local and regional level who help students in resolving complex legal and/or economic problems. Those partners include Business Incubator BIOS, Centre for Entrepreneurship in Osijek, prominent lawyers, the Commercial Court judges, members of the Croatian Employers Association (CEA) Osijek, employees of the Tax administration (Ministry of Finance), Croatian notaries chamber and some public notaries from different cities in Croatia (Osijek, Vinkovci, Vukovar, Slavonski Brod, Našice). The Legal-economic clinic UNIOS has substations in other cities in Croatia, for example substations in Županja and Slavonski Brod. The Legal-economic clinic UNIOS had great experience in working on Commercial law cases, Civil law cases and European law cases.
